Ren & Non, Shiba & Maruyama festeggiano il primo successo nelle qualificazioni

Tre coppie austriache, due svizzere, due spagnole e due giapponesi tra le squadre di successo a Goa

Due delle cinque coppie giapponesi che hanno partecipato alle qualificazioni femminili del Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Goa Challenge sono entrate a far parte delle otto coppie che si sono aggiudicate gli ultimi posti disponibili nel main draw. Altre due invece sono state sconfitte da connazionali in scontri al primo turno tutti giapponesi. Oltre a Ren Matsumoto & Non Matsumoto e Asami Shiba & Saki Maruyama, per le quali si trattava della prima volta nelle qualificazioni del Challenge, due coppie spagnole - Belen Carro & Angela Lobato e le leader del girone Liliana Fernаndez & Paula Soria - sono state raggiunte dalle norvegesi Sunniva Helland-Hansen & Emilie Olimstad, Le statunitensi Kimberly Hildreth & Teegan Van Gunst, le francesi Clemence Vieira & Aline Chamereau e le ceche Miroslava Dunarova & Daniela Resova sono entrate nel tabellone principale femminile dopo aver superato le qualificazioni di giovedì in India.

Successo Europa

Ben tre squadre austriache hanno contribuito al successo dell'Europa nelle qualificazioni maschili: le coppie del continente hanno conquistato tutti gli otto biglietti per il main draw di venerdì. Oltre a Paul Pascariuc & Laurenz Leitner, Mathias Seiser & Laurenc Grossig e Robin Seidl & Moritz Pristauz, Marco Krattiger & Florian Breer e Adrian Heidrich & Leo Dillier, entrambi svizzeri, i polacchi Jedrzej Brozyniak & Piotr Janiak, i francesi Samuel Cattet & Olivier Barthelemy e i leader del girone Lukas Pfretzschner & Sven Winter, tedeschi, si sono imposti nelle qualificazioni di giovedì.

13^th-seeded Ren & Non were the lowest ranked women’s duo to move successfully from the qualifiers to the main draw in Goa. In their first match, they mastered a shutout of fellow Japanese Ami Shirahata & Nayu Motomura, with Non’s 25-point match high including six aces. The Matsumotos then went on to produce a hard-fought comeback upset of fourth-seeded Finns Sara Sinisalo & Anniina Parkkinen.

Sixth-seeded Shiba & Maruyama started their campaign directly from the second round, delivering a sweep of their game against Czechia’s Valerie Dvorníkova & Anna Pospisilova.

Another Japanese pair, Sakurako Fujii & Sakura Ito, also started their day with a clash against compatriots. After a victory over Kana Motomura & Harumi Sakai, they also met a Czech opponent in the second round, but this one went second-seeded Dunarova & Resova’s way. Resova put away a match-high 26 points, including three of her team’s nine aces.

I norvegesi Helland-Hansen & Olimstad, dodicesimi, hanno sconfitto per 2-0 (21-10, 21-11) i thailandesi Charanrutwadee Patcharamainaruebhorn & Woranatchayakorn Phirachayakrailert, quinti.

Nelle qualificazioni maschili, Brozyniak e Janiak, 15esimi, sono stati la squadra con la classifica più bassa ad accedere al tabellone principale. Al primo turno, i polacchi hanno sconfitto i lettoni Olivers Bulgacs e Edgars Tocs in due set, 2-0 (21-17, 21-15). Poi, nell'ultima partita della giornata, hanno sconfitto per 2-0 (21-18, 21-12) i cinesi Wang Yanwei e Li Jie, seconda testa di serie, con Janiak che ha accumulato cinque ace e tre blocchi di uccisioni per un totale di 17 punti.

13^th-seeded Frenchmen Cattet & Barthelemy started with a narrow win over USA’s Evan Cory & Cody Caldwell and went on to knocking out fourth-seeded Australians Mark Nicolaidis & Izac Carracher with a victory in the deciding round.

Playing under number 10 in the qualification bracket, Pascariuc & Leitner were the lowest seeded Austrian duo to qualify. They did not drop a set along the way. After a shutout of Türkiye’s Yusuf Ozdemir & Batuhan Kuru, they were even more convincing against seventh-seeded Norwegians Markus Mol & Jo Gladsoy Sunde to celebrate a victory and a spot among the best 24 of the tournament.
