Tra le numerose giovani promesse che si apprestano a testare la sabbia dei prossimi Campionati del Mondo FIVB Beach Volley U21 del 2023 a Roi Et, spiccano alcuni nomi con una presenza già consolidata nel beach volley internazionale, che contribuiscono ad accrescere l'entusiasmo per l'evento che inizierà in Thailandia martedì 7 novembre e durerà fino a domenica 12 novembre.

France’s Arthur Canet in a spectacular dig at the 2023 Gstaad Elite16
I francesi Arthur Canet e Teo Rotar sono probabilmente i principali favoriti per il titolo maschile. Con la loro posizione 32, sono la squadra più in alto nella classifica mondiale FIVB Beach Volley che scenderà in campo a Roi Et questa settimana. Due anni fa hanno conquistato il titolo mondiale U19 a Phuket e quest'anno Rotar, 19 anni, e Canet, 18 anni, hanno trionfato come campioni europei U20. Il palmarès del duo francese comprende anche un bronzo ai Campionati Mondiali U19 e un argento ai Campionati Europei U20 nel 2022, oltre a un paio di medaglie nel Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour.
Anche gli austriaci Timo Hammarberg e Tim Berger, numero 81 della classifica mondiale, si presenteranno a Roi Et. Hanno già collezionato tre medaglie continentali di categoria in Europa, un bronzo U18 nel 2021, un oro U20 nel 2022 e un argento U20 nel 2023, oltre ad essersi classificati quarti nella categoria U22 a luglio. Pochi giorni fa, i giovani austriaci hanno ottenuto il loro primo podio nel Beach Pro Tour, conquistando l'oro al Mallorca Futures.
Due dei partecipanti alla finale del Campionato del Mondo U19 dello scorso anno, il vincitore della medaglia d'oro Kristians Fokerots e il secondo classificato Olivers Bulgacs, parteciperanno ai prossimi Campionati del Mondo U21 come squadra. Fokerots ha già collezionato cinque medaglie ai campionati europei di categoria e tre podi nel Beach Pro Tour. Il suo attuale partner abituale è il bronzo olimpico di Londra 2012 Martins Plavins. Bulgacs è stato compagno di squadra di Fokerots per le medaglie di bronzo di quest'anno ai campionati continentali U22 e U20. Ha anche un bronzo nel Beach Pro Tour con il compagno Edgars Tocs.

L'elenco degli iscritti maschili presenta anche un'interessante accoppiata: il norvegese Jo Gladsoy Sunde, 20 anni, quattro volte medaglia d'oro nel Beach Pro Tour e campione europeo U22 nel 2023, e il suo partner abituale Adrian, 19 anni, fratello di Markus Mol, il quarto dei cinque fratelli Mol, il più illustre dei quali è il campione olimpico in carica Anders Mol.

18-year-old Czech twins Anna Pavelkova & Katerina Pavelkova and the Latvian pairing of 16-year-old Liva Ebere and 18-year-old Deniela Konstantinova, both within the top 100 in the World Ranking, are among the highlights in the women’s entry list for Roi Et. The Pavelkovas claimed the 2022 U18 European title and a 2023 U20 continental bronze. Ebere & Konstantinova took U20 European silver in 2022.
This year’s U20 European champions Malgorzata Ciezkowska & Urszula Lunio of Poland will also compete at the U21 World Champs this week. So will Spain’s Sofía Izuzquiza, who claimed two age-category European medals, U18 gold and U22 bronze, this year and will appear in Roi Et with a different partner, Daniela Andreu.
Last year’s U19 world champion Yeva Serdiuk of Ukraine is set to compete alongside Kateryna Udovenko, while the bronze medallists of the championship in Dilikli, Ruby Sorra & Emma Glagau, will represent Canada again.
Switzerland’s 18-year-old rising star Leona Kernen, who claimed bronze at the previous edition of the U21 World Championship two years ago, as well as the U18 European title that year and a U20 continental silver this year, will play with Annique Niederhauser, while Australia’s Jasmine Fleming, a member of the world’s number 40 women’s team, has joined forces with Stefanie Fejes for the upcoming tournament in Thailand.
The 19th edition of the FIVB Beach Volleyball U21 World Championships is the third consecutive one to take place in Thailand, after the south-eastern Asian country welcomed the world’s rising beach stars to Udon Thani in 2019 and to Phuket in 2021.
The event will start on Tuesday with a 24-team qualifier in each gender. The main draw action featuring 32 teams per gender will unfold from Wednesday to Sunday, when the new U21 world champions in beach volleyball will become known.
