Rising high like a hawk, finding the gaps between opposing blockers and smashing the ball is like breathing for Hyderabad Black Hawks star attacker Guru Prasanth. An electric player to watch once he’s flowing, Guru helped the Hawks immensely in the inaugural RuPay Prime Volleyball League Powered by A23 Season when their top attacker Rohit Kumar (who is now with Kochi Blue Spikers) suffered a season-ending injury.

The team was taken aback with the injury to such a key player at such a crucial juncture in the season. As the song by Bob Case goes, “One man’s loss is another man’s gain.” For Guru, this was the opportunity for him to showcase his skills and boy did he grab the opportunity with both hands. Leading from the front, the young stallion put in brilliant performances and catapulted his team to the semi-finals, where they would eventually fall to Ahmedabad Defenders in a closely-contested match.
Guru went on to win the award for the Emerging Player of the Season, scoring 69 points with an amazing 56.1% attack success rate. He was retained by the Hyderabad Black Hawks and is touted to be one of the best players in the upcoming season. “I’m looking for better quality of volleyball in this country,” he said when asked about his expectations from the second RuPay Prime Volleyball League Powered by A23 season.
The Hawks also managed to grab hold of the former India Captain and the incredibly experienced setter Ranjit Singh, who captained Bengaluru Torpedoes in the inaugural RuPay Prime Volleyball League season. Guru Prasanth revealed that it was always his dream to be on the end of Ranjit’s sets and has a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for the setter from Punjab.
“Ranjit Singh anna, my senior, has joined the team. It's a dream come true for me because I watched him play for the national team when I was studying at my school,” said Guru Prasanth when asked if there was any player he was looking forward to playing with.
