Vargas si aggiudica il premio MVP della VNL

The Volleyball Nations League 2023 was the international breakthrough of Turkish star opposite Melissa Vargas, who, in her first appearance in the event, led her new national team to its first-ever title in the tournament, while also taking home the Most Valuable Player award.

The 23-year-old Cuban-born opposite also earned a spot in the tournament’s Dream Team, alongside two of her teammates, three players from second-placed China and one from third-placed Poland.

Vargas è stata la top scorer delle VNL Finals con 65 punti, nove in più della polacca Magdalena Stysiak - ha realizzato 16 punti nei quarti di finale contro l'Italia, 23 in semifinale contro gli Stati Uniti e 26 nella partita per la medaglia d'oro contro la Cina. L'opposto turco si è anche classificato al primo posto per numero di kills (55) e di aces (cinque) tra le giocatrici che hanno gareggiato ad Arlington.

Considerando tutte le 11 partite disputate nel torneo, la Vargas ha concluso la sua prima apparizione nella VNL con 227 punti - 194 kils, 19 aces e 14 blocchi. Si è classificata sesta nel punteggio, settima nelle kills e seconda negli aces.
