Arnhem
Arnhem is a city with strong connections to sport. The FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship 2022 in Arnhem is one of the examples of these connections. As the home of the Dutch Olympic Committee and Dutch Sport Federation (NOC-NSF), the capital of the Dutch province of Gelderland occupies a unique position in the Netherlands when it comes to sport. When the federation was founded in 1959 the idea was put forward of creating Papendal High Performance Centre (the largest elite sports training centre in the Netherlands).
Another example is the Gelredome. The impressive GelreDome is a multifunctional stadium that hosts major sporting events, amongst other things. In 2022 the Gelredome hosts the Women's World Championship. It is home to Arnhem’s football club Vitesse, which is currently competing in the Conference League.
The city also boasts a number of other outstanding sports venues. In recent years several major national and international sporting events, such as National Sports Week, the Giro d’Italia, World Championship inline-skating, World Championship BMX and UCI BMX Supercross World Cup have come to Arnhem.
Recent volleyball events are European Women’s Under-18 Volleyball Championships and World Championship Sitting Volleyball.
