Le potenze del beach volley, il Brasile e gli Stati Uniti, avranno una folta rappresentanza nel torneo femminile del prossimo Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Challenge di Edmonton, in Canada.

Con sette coppie ciascuna nel campo a 48 squadre, le brasiliane e le americane saranno tra le favorite nel sesto evento Challenge della stagione 2023, che si svolgerà al Fan Pak dal 20 al 23 luglio.

Brazil account for four of the 16 duos already guaranteed in the main draw in Edmonton, having also three teams among the five top-seeded tandems in the main phase of the tournament.

The highest-seeded Brazilian teams in the main draw in Canada will be second-seeded Ágatha Bednarczuk and Rebecca Cavalcanti, who will be playing their fifth tournament as partners, and third-seeded Bárbara Seixas and Carol Salgado.

Also representing the South American nation in the main draw in Edmonton will be Tainá Bigi and Victoria Lopes, seeded fifth, and Andressa Cavalcanti and Vitoria Rodrigues, seeded 12^th.

The United States have the top-seeded duo in the women’s main draw in Terese Cannon and Sarah Sponcil. The two have already won two medals in the 2023 Beach Pro Tour season, taking silver at the Ostrava Elie16 and bronze at the Itapema Challenge.

I tifosi americani avranno almeno un'altra squadra per cui fare il tifo nel main draw in Canada, dato che Julia Scoles e Betsi Flint entreranno nel torneo con la 14ª testa di serie.

Tra le americane e le brasiliane nella top five ci sono le italiane Marta Menegatti e Valentina Gottardi al quarto posto. Le europee cercheranno il loro secondo titolo del Beach Pro Tour nel 2023 dopo la vittoria al Saquarema Challenge in aprile.

Le altre nove squadre garantite nel main draw dell'Edmonton Challenge sono, nell'ordine, le thailandesi Taravadee Naraphornrapat/Worapeerachayakorn Kongphopsarutawadee, le svizzere Joana Mäder/Anouk Vergé-Dépré, le cinesi Chen Xue/Xinyi Xia, Tjasa Kotnik/Tajda Lovsin della Slovenia, Daniela Álvarez/Tania Moreno della Spagna, Zoé Vergé-Dépré/Esmée Böbner della Svizzera, Jagoda Gruszczynska/Aleksandra Wachowicz della Polonia, Ana Gallay/Fernanda Pereyra dell'Argentina e Amanda Harnett/Lea Monkhouse del Canada.

Il Brasile potrebbe ancora migliorare la sua presenza nel main draw di tre squadre se Talita Antunes/Thamela Coradello, Taiana Lima/Hegeile 'Hege' Santos e Carol Horta/Ana Luiza Mohr riusciranno a qualificarsi per l'Edmonton Challenge.

Gli Stati Uniti avranno ben cinque squadre in azione nella prima giornata dell'evento, alla ricerca di un posto nel main draw: Savvy Simo/Toni Rodriguez, Molly Turner/Madelyne Anderson, Megan Kraft/Emily Stockman, Kelley Kolinske/Hailey Harward e Brook Bauer/Katie Horton.

Le 48 squadre maschili (16 nel main draw e 32 nelle qualificazioni) iscritte all'Edmonton Challenge rappresentano 22 Paesi di quattro continenti: Nord e Centro America, Sud America, Europa e Asia. Tra i 96 giocatori, ci sono 21 olimpionici.
