La Germania batte la Bulgaria senza concedere alcun set e lascia la parte bassa della classifica.

Germany’s second victory in the Volleyball Nations League 2023 earned the team four spots in the standings as the Europeans went from 16^th to 12^th after their Wednesday success in Anaheim, United States.

The Germans faced Bulgaria, the only team besides them to enter the second day of the third week of the Preliminary Phase with just one win, and prevailed 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-22) with authority.

The result made the Germans surpass Bulgaria, Canada, Cuba and China, now ranking 12^th with two victories and seven points. Bulgaria now occupy the bottom of the standings with one win (six points) and are strongly threatened by relegation.

“It’s the best feeling, we worked hard for this,” said setter Johannes Tille. “We were very unlucky in the first two weeks. It felt like we couldn’t finish the sets and today we did it. The Finals are out of reach for us, so we have nothing to lose. We’re just trying to use these matches to get better as a team and today we managed to do that.”

Il battitore esterno Moritz Reichert è stato il primo di tutti i marcatori, uscendo dal campo con 14 punti, grazie a 12 kills e due ace. Anche l'opposto Linus Weber ha raggiunto la doppia cifra di punti per i tedeschi, producendo 12 punti, con 11 kills e un blocco.

Da parte bulgara, i battitori esterni Martin Atanasov, Asparuh Asparuhov e Denis Karyagin sono stati i principali marcatori, rispettivamente con 11, 9 e 9 punti.

Il maggior numero di errori commessi dai bulgari (25 a 14) è stata la principale differenza nella partita, mentre c'è stato un buon equilibrio nel punteggio delle kills, con i tedeschi che hanno ottenuto più aces (quattro a uno), i bulgari che hanno registrato più kills (44 a 43) e le due squadre che hanno pareggiato nei blocchi (tre).

Tre duelli si svolgeranno ad Anaheim venerdì: Argentina e Germania si affronteranno alle 13:30 ora locale (20:30 UTC), Serbia e Cuba alle 17:00 ora locale (00:00 UTC, sabato) e Bulgaria e Iran si affronteranno alle 20:30 ora locale (03:30 UTC, sabato).
