With the Women’s Volleyball Nations League (VNL) already underway and the Men’s VNL kicking off today, Volleyball World is excited to highlight several groundbreaking innovations for the 2024 edition of the competition that are enhancing the fan experience.
This year's VNL introduces the Champions Badge for the first time. This striking golden badge, intricately sewn into match jerseys, is worn by the reigning champions, symbolising their victorious performance in the 2023 edition and emphasising their esteemed status. Last year's women's champions, Türkiye, have already proudly displayed their badge. Now, as Poland begin their men's VNL campaign, they too are set to showcase their Champions Badge to the world.
Additionally, through a commitment to bringing fans closer to the action, this year’s VNL includes a Fan Zone in all locations. This interactive area provides spectators with unforgettable moments as they get the opportunity to engage with their favourite players when they make their way from the Field of Play to the team locker room post-match.
For the VNL 2024, fans can enhance their experience by playing the first-ever VNL Fantasy game. This immersive platform allows fans to step into the shoes of team managers, strategise player selections and compete against fellow aficionados in the ultimate test of volleyball knowledge and foresight, with great prizes to be won. Providing even more excitement for the competition, in the 2024 edition, fans can anticipate the Olympic Games Paris 2024 Drawing of Lots on Day 1 of the Finals.
Also, for the first time, pre-match World Ranking points are available on the VNL match schedule webpage, offering fans deeper insights into the significance of each match and the necessary points needed from each team in each game.
A new roster of global partners, including Mikasa, Mizuno, Ganten, Senoh, Gerflor and 1xBet, further solidifies the VNL's position as a premier international volleyball event, while Eurovision Services joins as the new World Feed contribution/distribution partner, demonstrating the growth of the world-class competition.
Technological advancements are plentiful, with the implementation of automated detection of the ball both in and beyond the antenna's space, an e-scorers certification programme led by the FIVB with VolleyStation, and fair play moments' green cards logged into VS Referee throughout the competition.
Fans are also enjoying enhanced GFX elements, including Win Prediction and VNL Leaderboards, as well as full-screen scoreboards displaying serving player and player rotation, and U-shaped scoreboards featuring serving players' names and jersey numbers, promising an immersive viewing experience like never before.
Speaking about the changes in the 2024 edition, Volleyball World CEO Finn Taylor exclaimed; “It is incredible to witness these groundbreaking innovations during the VNL. From deeper fan engagement to cutting-edge technology, these advancements represent our unwavering commitment to continually taking volleyball to the next level. We are delivering an unforgettable experience for players and fans alike, and it will be fantastic to see the impact these innovations will have on the future of the game.”
As fans pack the stadiums for the first match-ups, and these innovations get underway, there is no doubt that the 2024 edition of the VNL promises to be a thrilling showcase of talent and innovation.
And it doesn’t stop there. 2025 will see the VNL expand to 18 teams, ushering in an era of heightened competition by eliminating relegation and ensuring a more dynamic tournament structure
